ScreenCast takes center stage

by Connie Guglielmo

Bellingham, WA Ð Otherwise is shipping ScreenCast, an application that turns networked NeXTSTEP computers into an interactive and collaborative environment.

ScreenCast allows NeXT users to broadcast their screen displays live onto any NeXTSTEP computer linked to a LAN or WAN. Up to about 25 NeXTSTEP machines can be receivers.

Users on the receiving end see everything that appears on the sender's display, including any typing, window movements, and mouse actions. The receiver can also interact with the shared image, and those interactions will also be broadcast across all machines.

ScreenCast can assist in educational computer labs or training sessions, where students can monitor the instructor from their computers. Within a user-support group, technicians can troubleshoot problems by viewing a copy of the user's display and watching, and guiding, the user's actions.

ScreenCast 1.0 sells for $160 for one to nine copies; volume and educational discounts are available.
