Natives are restless

NeXT released in August the update to its SCSI tape driver and the new video driver for the Epson NX, which supports the C&T Wingine chip at native 1120-by-832 resolution in 16-bit color.

Meanwhile, more new drivers were scheduled for release at press time (see below). All drivers are free and work with NEXTSTEP 3.1 for Intel Processors. People who have network access can get the drivers by using anonymous FTP (connect to the computer ftp.next.com and get the file pub/README) or by using NeXT- answers via e-mail at address nextanswers@next.com with a subject line help index.

People without net access can get the drivers from NeXT Technical Support by calling 800/848-6398 and selecting option four.

Video

NeXT offers an improved ATI video driver that supports additional configurations and modes Ð up to a maximum of 1280 by 1024 in 8-bit grayscale and 1120 by 832 in 16-bit color in certain configurations. A new S3 video driver supports high resolution and more modes.

Sound

NEXTSTEP now supports the Intel GX Professional's on-board audio input/output and the Compaq Business Audio board.

Network

NeXT plans to release an updated Intel Ether Express LAN driver that fixes a variety of reported bugs and supports newer versions of the card Intel started shipping during the summer.
