Pages nears finish line

San Diego Ð After nearly three years of development, Pages entered final beta testing and was expected to ship before the end of September, according to a Pages Software spokesman.

The latest delay to the document-processing software was caused by features that broke when recent performance enhancements were added. The spokesman said that all the problems had been fixed and that the program's typing speed and reflow performance were now eight times better than in the previous beta release.

In addition, the company said that it issued a function request to customers for an API (application programming interface) that will be added to the program at a later date.
