So I've got a NeXTstation slab and I'm trying to install an operating system on it. Using just the floppy images from either Apple or this site's archive, the machine seems to fail chksum and doesn't recognize the label of the disk (image put onto disk via dd in Solaris 9, if that helps). Trying to boot off an external CD-ROM with NeXTSTEP 3.3 returns "SCSI: Unexpected msg 7". Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
And solved already; turns out I'd been using the incorrect floppy image for NeXTSTEP 3.3 at least (did not realize there was a Motorola-specific image); it's installing normally now.
yeah, I did that the first time I tried installing NS on my slab :) Welcome to the forums!
