We've experienced a ridiculous amount of trouble and downtime with our current Web host so we'll be moving to a new host sometime before October 10th. The URL will remain the same, but the IP address will change. It may take a day or so for the new IP address to travel to all of the DNS servers.
We're going to switch over to our new Web host this Saturday, October 7th. We hope the disruption will be minimal, but the forums may be inaccessible for part of the day or more.
Is the move done? It would seem so since the forums appear to be much more responsive.
Good job guys

Thanks for the kind words. We're live at the new host now, and it's been somewhat of a stressful transition. :) We had so many problems with our old host (NetworkSolutions), that I can't even begin to describe it. They must have had our forums hosted on the same server as a popular p*rn site, because we couldn't get any bandwidth! Not to mention that we're only 4 days away from the end of our 1 year hosting contract with them.
NeXT³ and I spent quite a bit of time getting the MySQL forum database transferred to the new site. Our new host (GoDaddy.com) is running an older version of MySQL than our old host. That caused some issues. Also, MySQL was confusing the letter "e" and the letter "é" in our database. NeXT³ kindly spent the time to manually massage the SQL database to overcome that problem. In addition, we discovered that the forum software will backup a database of almost any size, but will choke on restoring a database much over ~2Mb in size (ours is 10Mb+). D'oh! Thankfully, we were able to overcome that with BigDump (http://www.ozerov.de/bigdump.php)
I'd also like to thank the talented programmers at phpBB.com for providing the free forum software that we all enjoy here. They've really put together a professional forum software package and deserve a pat on the back.
We did spend a large amount of time getting the site converted over, but it was worth it. I'm suprised at how much much faster the new site is. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Good work and thank you guys!! :-)
Nice work, this forum now loads almost as fast as localhost's html :)
I wondered why the forum was loading faster :) I missed the 'we're moving' thread. I hadn't been on in a few weeks.
pretty nice! :)
Thanks everyone. We're glad to be finished with the move. Let us know if you find any broken links and we'll get them fixed.
Many, MANY thanks to all of you folks! I know what a pain transition of software can be...
