Title: Found a 20mhz cube board.. but not as expected
Post by: barcher174 on July 09, 2019, 06:00:04 am
So I've been on the lookout for an early cube board at 20mhz. I located one, but not as I expected. This board is strange. Half of the components were dated to mid/late 1988 and the other half dated to 1989 with very distinct similarities in date codes between the 2 sets. Stranger still, the board itself has a 12/89 production date? Why the early components on a later board? The CPU looks factory wave soldered and if it was reworked it was a -very- good job. I wonder, did the owner ever notice the CPU was overclocked? Pics:

OK that is weird , I'll have to take a closer look at some boards .... how did they over clock it?

No magic on the overclocking, they just put a 20mhz part in a 25mhz circuit. It's definitely strange.
