I guess you could say this is a 'sequel' to my "First Computer?" post. Mainly because I like to hear people's opinions and stories on computerstuffs (<< a word I made up)

Anyways,

If money wasn't a problem, what "dream setup(s)" would you get?

I myself would get probably a maxed out 27" quad core i7 iMac.

But it doesn't have to be a new computer either. I'd like to have a NeXTstation turbo color with all the original accessories, maybe a Mac IIci to replace my broken one *sniff* and maybe, just MAYBE a TRS-80.

What about you?

A quad-1GHz SGI Tezro.

As for relatively current x86 gear, I'm getting a Sun Ultra 24 soon, which is about as satisfied as I can be for a computer considered "modern," for any money.

That's a difficult question to answer. I want a quad core PowerMac G5, 2.5 GHz with 16GB RAM. I found several new ones, dealer stock, that have never been opened and are quite a steal because they are not the current 'Intel' generation of mac. I would probably load OS X Server on one and use it as my everything computer.

On the other hand, I need to run Windows 7 to do Finite Element Analysis and CAD, so I will probably go for an Intel-Based MacPro in the not too distant future. I would like a G5, but realistically, it isn't really an option.

CM-2 for me! Actually I am thinking of creating a MOD/Tribute to the CM-2. It would be a 8 small cubes each with a mini-itx computer, all put together into a large cube (about a cubic foot), creating a cluster of 8 computers in to a single cube, just like the original CM-2. Now I just need extensive amounts of free time to make it happen =)

That would be an impressive site, especially if you could rig up some red led panels to simulate the "blinkey" look of the original. You could alway start with the single cube CM-2a version, and scale up from there.

Pixar Image Computer still at the top of my list.

I've always been partial to SGI gear so the VGX Power Series Deskside would be one thought.

For current gear the 12 Core Mac Pro fully decked out with ram and hard drives though honestly I'm still doing fine with my Quad G5 just wish it had dual optical drive bays and two more hard drive bays like the Mac Pro....
