I had quite a few different comp mags in the 80s/early 90s. One magazine I thought was exceptional (and was a good vehicle for people to read about the NeXT) was Byte. It was a multi-platform mag that also included high-end Unix systems. I always liked the extra attention they made to the hardware end that so many other mags lacked. E.g. when they review a new computer they showed photos of the motherboard and labelled the parts something many mags didn't do. They also did good performance comparos like you'd expect in a Car magazine!

I was just curious if anybody else liked it as well. I heard they got bought out by a competitor and they closed them down Crying or Very sad

Sadly I threw out most of my collection last time I moved and kept only a few of them. I still regret that action to this day. Those detailed articles on super expensive systems are just as relevant today as a collector since now many of those high end systems are dirt cheap! Smile

A shadow of its former self is at http://www.byte.com/ and it includes one of my faves from the mag: Chaos Manor by jerry Pournelle.

I was a subscriber from 1983 until it died as a print mag, seems like around 1997 or so. I left my archives at my ex-wife's house and they were dumpstered when she cleaned out my stuff.

I have several Byte cover prints from Robert Tinney framed and hung on my office walls. I've been considering ordering a few more while they are still available.
