All of the photos from the cube burning at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory have been posted on flickr:

This bizarre ‘burning Cube’ thing never seems to die. It’s so Hollywood. I wish I remembered the reference, but somewhere I read someone’s description of the NeXTCube and they wrote that the Cube ‘had an unfortunate tendency to catch fire when they overheat’ or some other such nonsense! It was obviously based on the photo of a “burning cube” that I’ve seen so often. Folks that take the time to read an account of what was done find out that it took natural gas and kerosene to make the photo of a “burning cube”. I like the photos you found because they reveal even more of the theatrics!

I remember seeing some comments online about cubes catching fire too. Funny stuff. They really had to work at it to get the cube to ignite, but some people think you can do it with a match. Smile If nothing else, one of those pictures might make a good background for the desktop.

Well here it is, someone did it again!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkvQ-BJD2rU

What do you think of the statement?:

"For a long time now, I've had a non-functional NeXTcube sitting in my
cubicle. Since I'm changing jobs, I asked my boss what I should do with it."

Too bad he and his boss didn't know about nextcomputers.org (or
e-bay for that matter)! Kinda seems a waste.

The video was very lame. Seemed like Red(mond?)neck country... The photos are much better. More stylized.

All in all sacrilege! Those infidels!
