Hi
I just unboxed a non-adb NeXTstation color. It is just the machine. So I have a few questions. Is it possible to convert it to ADB? Is it possible to boot it without the soundbox? And if I can't convert is it possible to mod any mice to be non-adb?

Thanks
Kevin

If your NeXTstation has four main memory slots, then it has the Turbo chipset and can be converted to ADB. If it has more than four main memory slots, then it must use the non-ADB keyboard/mouse.

I haven't tried to boot a slab headless, but the standard trick should work. There's info on booting headless over at the NetBSD Web Site. Maybe someone can chime in with the link.

Yes, other mice can be adapted to work with a non-ADB NeXT computer. You can search the forums here for threads on the topic, and/or read this document:

What I meant was is it possible to plug the keyboard directly into the computer, rather than through a soundbox because I dont really care about having sound

No. You'll have to plug the keyboard into a non-ADB soundbox or a non-ADB monitor. Sorry.

you also will need a Y-cable that has all the DB19 pins populated on the side that connect to the ADB soundbox. I just discovered this trying to convert a system to ADB:

1. I had to upgrade the eprom to v74.
2. Convert the board in the soundbox to an ADB board.
3. Use a DB19 Y-cable that has all the 19pins present on the soundbox connection. (some only have half the pins present, this will only work on a non-adb system).
