This is how it looks on my wall:

Pretty good I'd say. It's printed onto acrylic glass.

I just downloaded the enhanced version but I can't see anything in this file... I tried to open it with OS X Preview.app and Pixelmator. nogo... any idea what might have gone wrong?
regards,

Preview.app didn't show anything (maybe it was processing it, but I didn't wait too long before quitting), but opening it in GIMP 2.8 worked great _________________

I worked on the picture in GIMP. It has one layer and was exported as TIF.
Preview and Quicklook do not show anything of the TIF (maybe they choke on it). Pixelmator too. Graphicconverter, GIMP and PhotoMill work.
The PNG version seems to work everywhere: https://db.tt/PYuDvjud
Here is the "original" GIMP XCF file: https://db.tt/yMNexahH

Found the problem that Apple's viewers and Pixelmator have: I kept the original CS41XX color profile from the scanner.
When I change the profile to sRGB in GIMP the resulting TIF can be displayed by Preview and Pixelmator.
I'm not a pro but I think it is correct to keep the scanner's color profile. |

Very cool. How much does it cost to print something like that? |

Got it from my wife for birthday, so she went for the best.
It is from Whitewall, which seems to be one of the better "poster" printers out there. They accepted the large png file as regular upload. Other sites seems to be only for smaller photos etc. and chocke on a bigger / high resolution files. Whitewall also has international sites.
Mine is this product: https://de.whitewall.com/foto-auf-acrylglas-metallic (i.e. metallic photo print behind acrylic glass). The size after removing the borders was 94 x 43 cm. It ended up at 180 Euros... |

I have an original of this poster from when I worked at the University of Utah bookstore computer section around 1990, my boss gave it to me as a parting gift. It has some minor water damage on one corner. I'm interested in taking offers rather than selling on eBay. I also have a NeXT t-shirt and a NeXT bag somewhere (I'll need to look for those). |
