Hi,
I'd like to package Previous for a linux distribution and I was wondering
if the NeXT ROM images are redistributable or if they're "up until someone complains".

Is there anything official from Apple or any other right owner?

Thanks

The only information i have about this question comes from this thread (see post from Nitro): http://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1164&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I don't know if redistributing the ROM files is allowed.

Hello NeXT Community: I have permission from Apple higher ups to support NeXTSTEP and Openstep for NeXT hardware and I would think rom files would fall under that category , there probably are grey areas but it all is approaching 20 + year old software , non of this is for commercial endeavors and is primarily hobbiest focused . I also have permission from Apple legal ,
If anyone has further questions about this feel free to send me an email at sales@blackholeinc.com

Mr. Blessin,

To confirm, we understand that you desire to provide the following services for NeXT m68k-based personal computers:

* backups

* restores

* upgrades to Y2K-compliant versions for both NeXTSTEP and OpenStep operating systems,though again only for NeXT hardware.

Under the circumstances, we don't believe we have issues with you providing such services, and we require no further information or consideration from you.

Sincerely, Ernest Prabhakar Apple Computer
