Hello again.

Lucky me was able to get myself a Bandai Pippin Atmark (white one). Now I'm looking for some software stuff and hardware related info. I know several Pippin related sites but I did not find any pages like the Peanuts.org or NeXTftp for NeXT ones that offer deeper information about that device. Just one japanese ebay shop is actually selling Pippin software but I would prefer other shops from the US or where ever because shipping costs from Japan are very high.

And I'm not able to read Japanese language at all ;-)

Any Information about "Super Marathon", the Pippin version of the first Marathon FPS from Bungie is highly prefered! Also any information about that special Pippin CD format.

Thank You once more!

J

I know someone who has a basic level (can read/write hiragana and katakana) of Japanese. Maybe he could translate it for you. However, it is probably Kanji, in which case, I cannot help you.

@ ericj:

Thank You very much for Your offer but I don't even intend to contact that japanese shop. It doesn't make too much sense to me to use japanese software when there is english language stuff around. Anyway I'm more interested to "port" more actual stuff to the Pippin but I need an original CD to get some special information. ;)

@ nextchef:

Thanks for compliments! Last thing I'm really interested in is the Apple settop - but most eBay offers just go to USA Sad Anyway around here in Switzerland there is lots (!) of unusual computer stuff to find. Another interesting machine I'm having an eye on actually is a Norsk computer...

Back to topic: I've known this page before but it's not quite what I'm looking for. Maybe I'm lucky once more but Thank You !

Thanks especially for the second link, applefreak!

I've been playing around with the DevKit a bit and managed to get the Pippin booted off a Zip disk connected to the SCSI BUS. Tried the same with a harddisk but this doesn't work for some strange reason. Sad to say I won't achieve to build a bootable custom Pippin CD with my old-days favorites because the CD encryption isn't provided anymoe (and not documentated very well).

J - happy to ow a Pippin at last

Yeah, I'm still looking for one of those...

I've been hacking around a bit in early development software of those settop boxes and found some similarities between the QuickTime Conferencing Kit and early versions of the QuickTime Streaming Server. I'm pretty sure that some sort of dedicated MPEG streaming server was needed to provide that "TV on demand" thing.
As long as I don't own one of these boxes I can't experiment with some ideas I have :(

Jenne,

You are really into some obscure hardware interests, and seem to find some really interesting pieces.

I await the next vintage treasure you are able to find .. ;)

Hello chef.

I already found some more parts for my collection but several jobs keep me off writing new pages about them. In the meantime a good friend of mine has sent me an Apple QuickTime Conferencing Kit - now I will have to get myself an AV Mac in order to get this one running... Rolling Eyes
I've been setting up my Quadra A/UX machine, connected two of my newtons to my LAN, installed some Rhapsody and BeOS on my G3 B&W and hooked an old hard disk into my Mac Portable (that cable soldering thing...).
You see, there will be more to come but it will take lots of time...

What version of Rhapsody did you install on your B&W G3? One of the DR releases, or the OSX server releases. I have B&W sitting around doing nothing at the moment, and this might be a good use for it.

I finally snagged myself a Mac Portable, rescued it from a local electronics recycling place. It is the back lit screen model, and booted right up into MacOS once I found a compatible power adapter. The vertical axis pin on the trackball is damaged, making it not 100% functional, but an external mouse works just fine.

I installed all the DR Releases, maybe I'm going to place another drive into the G3 for the first OS X server version, too. The B&W seems to be easier to handle in my opinion. I tried this with a beige G3 Desktop but it screwed itself up somehow...
