Would this 'accelerator' work in a NeXT box?

Check out the photos, but most importantly the PDFs that are at the bottom.

The interesting part is that it needs an A3640 to plug into, and I think that's where it gets the clock signal from as well. Now, even though it plugs right into an existing 040 socket, I'm not sure it will work on any 040 machine, because this sucker also has memory on it and perhaps it uses certain of those 040 pins for other things (in a propriatery fashion).

Any ideas from the hardware gurus in here?

I don't see the goal here. That piece cures the deadly slow memoryinterface between CPU-card and motherboard (Amiga have designed it to handle a 32 Bit interfdace to the 68030) since it haves its own mem.
I assume, that a Turbonext is times faster than this if it would work.

What's the memory bus width of a NeXT box? I thought it was also 32bits wide, not 64bit (or more).  But the point is that this card will take an existing 32bit memory architecture (Amiga) and add an 040 with a 64bit interleaved memory bus, so basically producing 4x the memory bandwidth. All this I got from the .pdfs that came with the board.

Of course if the 040 can use that or not, I'm not sure. It's complicated if you don't know the exact setup latency of the memory, burst speed of memory and burst capability of the CPU. I don't :(  Anyways, I was just asking Andreas, not saying I'm going to do it :)

I don't know but the transfer figures are the same than with Amiga Turbo Cards and mesured with bustest 0.07 (if i remember correctly)

Take a look at the second diagram (mostly mesured on my machines :-)))

The Amiga has also high peeks until ~50MB/s, the same as the turbos with 60ns RAM.

Andreas,

that benchmark link doesn't work :-(

Could you please repost a working one?

Hi folks,

if someone is missing the www.koplien.de/henry/NeXT, it has moved to

      http://www.famkoplien.de/henry/NeXT/

Reason was a domain grabber who bought the domain in a couple of minutes.
The pages are not refurbished yet, put I nevertheless will put the latest
VideoStream available, if I have sufficient time to do so.
